The implementation of the ELI Project in the Czech Republic receives support from the following distinguished Czech institutions:
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports
Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports is the main supporter of the Project in the Czech Republic. As a funding agency it represents Czech Republic in the ELI-PP International Steering Committee, and provides funding during the preparatory stage of the ELI Project on the national level. In September 2008, on behalf of the Czech Republic, the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences submitted a bid for hosting the Extreme Light Infrastructure. This application received a full support of the Czech Government (Resolution No. 2514, dated November 24, 2008); the Deputy Minister for Research and Higher Education, Vlastimil Růžička, was appointed the Plenipotentiary of the MEYS for the Czech candidacy for hosting ELI.
Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is the second funding institution on the national level that declared its support for the ELI Laser Infrastracture. Together with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Academy of Sciences represents the Czech Republic in the ELI-PP International Steering Committee. Supporting fundamental research in a wide range of natural, technical and social sciences is the primary mission of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The Institutes of the Academy of Sciences have become an integral part of the educational system, particularly by bringing up the young scientists, by supporting the post-graduate and PhD studies, and also by allowing its experts to teach at the Czech universities. The Academy closely collaborates with industry and applied research players. The scientists of the Academy of Sciences actively participate in numerous international projects and exchange programs with its partner institutions worldwide, and by doing so further the role of Czech science on an international level.
ELI-CZ consortium
ELI-CZ consortium groups together all of the Czech universities and scientific institutions interested in the ELI Project. Founded in January 2009, the Consortium stands as an evidence of a strong partnership between the academic and research institutions, and clearly demonstrates the common goal: building and operating the ELI international laser facility in the Czech Republic. Introducing new educational programmes (undergraduate, graduate, and PhD) that will be closely tied to the ELI scientific parameters, as well as raising awareness of the ELI Project and the laser sciences in general throughout the national academic community is the main mission of the Consortium ELI-CZ members.
Central-Bohemia Region
In October 2008 the Governor of the Central-Bohemia Region signed the Memorandum of Mutual Support and Cooperation in Implementing the ELI European Research Infrastructure in the Czech Republic to express local support for building the ELI Research Infrastructure in the region.
