Science Café

Science Café is a popular series of informal discussion evenings where scientists meet general public interested in science. 10th January’s topic was: ELI Beamlines – The Mystery of Laser. Lecturers were the members of our scientific team Pavel Bakule and Daniel Kramer – and it must be said their lecture was a complete success. Not only because it attracted one of the highest number of visitors in a history of Science Café, but also because Daniel and Pavel managed to keep their attention the whole time. The applause was their reward.

Selection of a general contractor for 2nd phase of building implementation (an advance notice)

The subject of the tender process is the selection of a building contractor to build a new building for the Project ELI, including sanitary sewers and driveway to the parking lot, water mains and nitrogen economy. The selected contractor shall also conduct a cooperation in archaeological site survey, installation technology cooperation, cooperation in the placing the center of the ELI laser operation and synergies with other suppliers and related projects (project HiLASE, street reconstruction project, project preparation area). Building contracts are not digging the pit, which will take place with the demolition work in other public contract. Read more.

Dear friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

The year that has just ended was a very challenging for the ELI Beamlines team. However, the year that is coming will make us all even busier. In just a few days preparatory construction works in Dolní Břežany will begin. By the end of 2015 the most important international research centre in the Czech Republic should be completed. We believe that the centre will contribute significantly to increase the renown of the Czech research and development at home as well as abroad.

I would love to thank you all for your kind attention you have been devoting to this unique project. Let me also express our wish to rely on your support also in 2012. We believe that ELI Beamlines is worth of it.

I wish you that the upcoming holidays are being spent as much as possible in accordance with your desire and expectations and with people you like the most.

RDIOP Conference

On Wednesday, 7 December 2011, the annual conference of the Research and Development for Innovations Operational Programme (RDIOP) took place at the modern spaces of the National Technical Library in Prague. The Steering Committee of the RDIOP, directed by Michal Zaorálek, newly named a deputy of the Secretary of State for European Affairs gave a talk at the conference.

There were heard the details about the drawing funds earmarked for the RDIOP which together represent almost 60 milliard Czech crowns from European funds and state costing for supporting Czech science and research.

In the second part of the conference Vlastimil Růžička, Managing Director of ELI Beamlines (in the picture), commented on current event within this unique center of excellence international project whose funding is administered by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports through the RDIOP. Implementation of ELI in the Czech Republic is coordinated by the Institute of Physics (IoP) of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

FLUKA

FLUKA is a fully integrated particle physics Monte-Carlo simulation package. It has many applications in high energy experimental physics and engineering, shielding, detector and telescope design, cosmic ray studies, dosimetry, medical physics and radio-biology. More information, as well as related publications can be found on the FLUKA website. The course will help professionals working in the Monte Carlo radiation transport fields to understand the various functions and attributes of the code. More information is available here.
