Light for the Future: FJFI CTU and ELI ERIC Partnership Connects Education with Research

The Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FJFI CTU) and the Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) have signed a framework agreement for long-term cooperation. The partnership will connect top-tier academic education with unique research opportunities in the field of laser physics and its applications. The collaboration will take place primarily at the ELI Beamlines facility in Dolní Břežany, which is part of ELI ERIC.

What does this mean in practice?

Students from FJFI will gain access to one of the most advanced laser infrastructures in the world. They will be able to work on their own research projects, prepare their theses and dissertations in cutting-edge experimental laboratories, and join international scientific teams. As part of the agreement, ELI ERIC will also contribute to the financial support of students engaged in research activities related to their doctoral studies.

Science is a team effort – and when we bring together young, talented researchers with state-of-the-art technologies, truly exceptional results can be achieved.

The cooperation focuses on:

  • Using ELI Beamlines as a training and research site for FJFI PhD students.
  • Actively involving ELI ERIC experts in student education and supervision (including formal roles as supervisors or co-supervisors).
  • Sharing know-how and research outcomes between institutions.
  • Preparing joint research projects and grant proposals.
  • Supporting mobility of students and staff across both institutions.

“Our goal is to enable students not only to learn, but to create – in an environment where discoveries with global impact are born,” says Roman Hvězda, Director of ELI Beamlines.

The result will be a stronger preparation of the next generation of researchers, who will contribute to the development of technologies with direct impact on science, industry, and healthcare.

Science, research, and education in laser physics are gaining a fresh shared momentum – in a place where light becomes a tool of discovery and innovation.
