The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) will launch its 9th User Call on 15 September 2026, inviting researchers from around the world to apply for access to ELI’s cutting-edge research capabilities.
The Call will remain open until 20 October 2026. Experiments selected through the 9th User Call are expected to take place during the May-October 2027 experimental period.
Full details of the Call will be announced at the launch. In the meantime, the preliminary experimental offer of the ELI ALPS and ELI Beamlines Facilities is available on the ELI User Portal.
All proposals undergo a feasibility assessment and an international, excellence-based peer-review process, with access awarded based on scientific merit and the feasibility of the proposed experiments.

Researchers interested in applying are strongly encouraged to review the available experimental capabilities and contact the relevant instrument scientists as early as possible. Early contact helps clarify the feasibility, technical requirements, and any specific considerations related to the setup, giving prospective users sufficient time to prepare a well-founded proposal
For questions related to the proposal submission process, please contact the ELI User Office at user-office@eli-laser.eu.
ELI User Programme: Sustained Demand and Expanding Research Scope
ELI’s 8th User Call continued to demonstrate strong and sustained demand from the international research community, with 146 proposals submitted involving more than 500 researchers. The quality of proposals remains high, with an acceptance rate for beamtime of approximately 60%. The Call 8 results also highlight how ELI’s capabilities are increasingly being used across established and emerging research areas, from materials, life sciences and particle acceleration to energy-related research, digital technologies, environmental studies and cultural heritage applications.
