Congratulation to our students from the ELI Beamlines project

We consider a great honor to share with you the success of our students from the ELI Beamlines project. In this way we would like to congratulate them for their outstanding scholarly achievements.

The ELI Beamlines PhD student Gabriele Grittani has recently been given the “Best Student’s Presentation” award at the RAD-Conference 2015 in Montenegro. The conference, on “radiation and applications in various fields of science”. Gabriele Grittani presented the expected user capabilities of the High-energy Electron-acceleration by Laser (HELL) experimental platform at ELI Beamlines and the beam transport system for the electron irradiation station being implemented at HELL.

“Part of the audience, different medical physicist, oncologist, biologist and others, seemed very interested in future possibilities of beam time at ELI Beamlines for their experiments. Furthermore, some of them showed great interest in the possible development of a small scale accelerator to be used locally in their Institutions: this is also a clear indication of the potential for technology transfer activity in this field (Gabriele Grittani)”.

Gabriele says, “I think that my work being awarded (out of more than 30 PhD presentations) is further confirmation of the interest of the radiation community in using our radiation sources”.

Another pair of students from the ELI Beamlines project, Jan Kaufman and Martina Žáková has recently graduated with honors at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Jan Kaufman defended thesis entitled “Development of Radiochromic Film Diagnostics for Laser-Driven Ion Beams” and he developed one of the advanced detectors which will be used at the ELIMAIA (ELI Multidisciplinary Applications of laser-Ion Acceleration) beamline.

Martina defended thesis entitled “Optimization of Laser-Accelerated Ion Beam Divergence”. She has performed advanced numerical simulations aimed at improving the ion beam quality for future user experiments at the ELIMAIA (ELI Multidisciplinary Applications of laser-Ion Acceleration) beamline.
